There is a 9/11 Memorial run going on here at the Army base next weekend and I knew that I wanted to get in on it. It's a small race, mostly just the community here in Schweinfurt, which is very, very tiny but I've been dying to race. I knew that I wanted to do the 5K so I've been running just a couple miles at a time and working on getting faster, not too worried about distance because after running for 2 years now I can do 5K, so I wasn't worried.
Well, on Saturday I went to sign up at the PX and I saw that they have 3 different distances: 3K, 5K and 9.11K. Now I'm in a pickle, I've been preparing for a 5K but I really like the idea of doing 9.11K for a 9/11 memorial so of course, I was like what the hell, and I signed up for the 9.11K! Shit!
Saturday evening I went for a run and set out to do 4 miles knowing that I needed to run more than 5K but not so much that I would be sore. I hit the tank trail, which is my usual stomping ground but it gets much hillier the further you go. I was surprised at how good I felt, I walked a little in my 3rd mile but started feeling so good at mile 4 that I decided to add a mile. I didn't realize how much I missed running longer distances.
Sophia starts school tomorrow and I'm finally going to have time to run without having to pay for a babysitter, I can't wait. I've already made plans to run on Wednesday with a friend I've met here that runs, she's a beginner but it will be nice to help her out and have someone to run with finally. Things are definitely looking good for me.
I've got an announcement later this week but I don't want to jinx myself by saying anything yet but stay tuned for big news!!!
